An Offbeat Wedding Reading: Thank You by Robert Plant (Led Zeppelin)

00Readings, Rev Zaro BlogTags: , , , , , , ,

Jessica and Shawn exchanged vows and rings tonight at the gorgeous Ardmore Mansion at Mountainview Manor. They had a simple spiritual ceremony with a unique reading. Below are the lyrics from the Led Zeppelin song “Thank You,” which was written by Robert Plant. When I meet with couples, I like to ask them a variety of questions to get to know them, and their relationship, better. By doing this, I find out a lot in the small details. I may discover that they are dog or cat lovers, Yankees or Mets fans, Giants or Jets, Rangers or Islanders, etc. I also ask about their TV and music favorites. In Jessica and Shawn’s case, I recommended a deeply romantic reading that was from my ‘standards’ file and this one penned by half of the “Stairway to Heaven” songwriting team of Plant and Jimmy Page. It is deep, less known and so beautifully fitting for a wedding. The couple loves the Allman Brothers, but I was pressed to find any songs that really fit them (or their wedding ceremony) by Greg and Duane Allman, et al, so I looked a bit deeper. They agreed this was a good fit. During their ceremony, I even saw a few people mouthing the lyrics. It resounded with them, without being a distraction. Led Zeppelin, after all, had a deep, thoughtful song on their hands with this creation by their lead singer.

READING: “Thank You” (Led Zeppelin; Lyrics by Robert Plant)

If the sun refused to shine, I would still be loving you.
When mountains crumble to the sea, there will still be you and me.

Kind woman, I give you my all, Kind woman, nothing more.

Little drops of rain whisper of the pain, tears of loves lost in the days gone by.
My love is strong, with you there is no wrong,
together we shall go until we die. My, my, my.
An inspiration is what you are to me, inspiration, look… see.

And so today, my world it smiles, your hand in mine, we walk the miles,
Thanks to you it will be done, for you to me are the only one.
Happiness, no more be sad, happiness….I’m glad.
If the sun refused to shine, I would still be loving you.
When mountains crumble to the sea, there will still be you and me.

Wedding Reading: The Fire Pit by Rev. Lisa Zaro

00Rev Zaro Blog
Once in awhile, I’m inspired by a couple to write a piece to go into their wedding ceremony as a reading. Last weekend was one of those moments. Whitney and Sahmon have shared many magical times around a fire pit. As their wedding neared, I started thinking about just the right piece to put between their vows and rings. Not finding ‘the one’ reading inspired me to write The Fire Pit. Sahmon and Whitney, thank you for your inspiration and for selecting me as your Wedding Officiant.

Hudson Valley Officiant - Write Your Own Vows

The Fire Pit by Rev. Lisa Zaro

A frolicking fire holds incredible energy
It performs a magnificent dance that can make your heart melt
It warms you not only by the flames, but by the invitation it extends to family and friends
The blaze glows beautifully as loved ones encircle it
Cozy up to the bright burn tonight
Grab a blanket and make s’mores
Hold each other
Linger ‘til the embers fade
Be the last to go inside
This time will be different
Tonight, you will turn in from the deep blue night as husband and wife

Getting Your Marriage License in New York State

Mohonk Mountain House Wedding Ceremony

Lauren + Johnny (JP Elario Photography) at Mohonk Mountain House in New Paltz, NY.

While planning your wedding in New York, be sure to familiarize yourself with the laws of the Empire State and it’s municipalities.

You can obtain your license at a city or town clerk’s office anywhere in New York State 24 hours to 60 days prior to your wedding.

Will you be getting married in New York City? If your answer is “Yes!”, then you MUST utilize a NYC Registered Officiant if you are going to be wed in one of the 5 boroughs of New York City. Rev. Lisa Zaro is registered with the City of New York and is proud to serve as the officiating clergy for couples in NYC, Upstate NY and Northern NJ.

For official marriage license requirements in the State of New York, please visit the State’s official site at
Current fee: $40.00

For official marriage license requirements in the City of New York, please visit NYC’s official site at
Current fee: $35.00

Our recommendations:

If you are being wed by a friend or family member who has been ordained online, please be sure to check with the municipality you are being wed in to ensure the legality of your marriage. If you are in doubt, you may have your close friend or family member perform your ceremony and one of our Officiants witness your nuptials. We will ask you a few questions after your ceremony in order to meet the legal requirements set forth by the state, pronounce you, and finally, we will sign as the presiding clergy.

Don’t wait until the last minute to obtain your license in NY. Yes, you can get it as late as 24 hours prior to your wedding, but what if you leave an important document at home? You will be out of time and need a judicial waiver to go ahead with your nuptials. We recommend you go as early as feasible so that you may have peace of mind and check the license off of your to-do list.

Once you have your license, put it with the belongings you will keep with you at the ceremony location, such as your ‘day of’ tote bag, briefcase, purse or basket.

Do NOT give it to anyone before your wedding day. Our practice is that we do not take hold of your license at your rehearsal or final meeting. It should stay in your safe keeping at all times.

Why? What if your Officiant, best friend, best man, planner or parent that you asked to hold it does not make it to the wedding due to an emergency situation (accident or dire illness). Without the presence of your license, you can not be legally wed in New York State.

[Off topic!] Wait… What if your Officiant gets sick? If it is an Officiant from Personalized Ceremonies by Rev. Zaro, we have several ministers within our group, and have good relationships with other professionals that we would call on if the situation arose.
